Mike Hannigan of Coworkinn at Irish Management Institute

I am delighted to see Michael Hannigan of CoWorkinn getting a well deserved commentary in the Business Section/Appointments.

This is an idea whose time has come.

When I was hired to do a series of images for Michael’s promotional material for Coworkinn I found a wonderful and unique attitude amongst many of the individuals who utilise the coworkinn centre in Sandyford.

I think the heading of the piece in todays Sunday Times discovers why such a positive attitude prevails.

QUICK Resolution">Digital Images - A QUICK Resolution

Q. I have these great images and I want to use them in a brochure.

The printer says the files are low resolution but they look great on my computer screen.
Whats wrong. !!

A.
You need a 300dpi [dpi = dots per inch] image to get good print quality.

These are known as HI RESOLUTION images.
Images used onscreen such as for web sites are 72 dpi .
The benefit of this is the speed with which such images load in browser windows.
Awareness of the difference can save you a degree of frustration.

Your Monitor Accuracy

MONITOR CHECK UP Reference Chart

The thought of calibrating your monitor is not one that occurs to many people, unless they work in an environment where reliable information in regard to colour and density is essential. The use of images is now primarily web and email driven and is therefore reliant on screen evaluation.

The colour and density chart below can help you.

Col BW chart Is your Monitor Accurate

This chart will facilitate a quick check up to see how your monitor is behaving. If you cannot distinguish 10 shades of grey from black to white you need to do some adjustments.

REMEMBER that a good image can look dark and awful on a poorly set monitor screen. As a result you can make false judgements which may not reflect reality.

I hope this article is of benefit to you. Please feel free to share it with your colleagues.
